Democracy isn’t something that only happens in parliament. It happens in all of us. This three-channel video and surround-sound installation reveals the stories of ordinary Australians whose acts of civic engagement — from signing a petition to giving evidence at a Royal Commission — have helped shape parliamentary decisions, governance and the way we live today. From an 11-year-old aspiring Prime Minister to Australia’s first Muslim stand-up comedian; from remote Western Australia to the Torres Strait, these are voices we seldom hear and places we rarely see. Together, their stories reveal a more diverse picture of Australian democracy — one grounded in fairness, freedom of speech, accountability and justice, and shaped by people who choose to participate. How do you participate?
