In this unique episode of Compass, filmmaker Patrick Abboud meets frontline Palestinian journalists who risked everything to document the truth of Gaza. Now safe in Australia, they reveal extraordinary new evidence of Israel's continued killing of journalists. Since October 7, 2023, the Committee to Protect Journalists has reported that Israel has killed more than 260 journalists and media workers — the deadliest period for reporters in modern history. Under international law, deliberately targeting journalists is a war crime. Israel continues to ban foreign press from reporting independently inside Gaza.

THE IMPACT

‍

'Surviving Gaza, Seeking Truth' revealed rare first hand testimonies and new evidence in the global fight seeking justice for journalists murdered by Israel in Gaza. The Committee to Protect Journalists will be using elements of the film as part of their ongoing call for accountability for the targeting and killing of journalists in Palestine and in other parts of the world. In 2026, just two months after it's release, it won the Media Diversity Australia prize at the mid year Walkley awards. Excerpts of the film were also featured in a sold out session at the Festival of Dangerous Ideas as well as being featured in national publication Crikey.
